New 2011 Mustang GT is the most economical car in its class. The car is powered by a completely new engine 5.0-liter V-8 aluminum engine and six-speed manual transmission, output power is a 412 HP. EPA official for the new model Mustang are:
Mustang V-6 – 19 mpg city and 31 mpg highway (automatic coupe) / 19 mpg city and 29 highway (manual coupe).
Mustang GT V8 – 18 mpg city and 25 highway (automatic coupe) / 17 mpg city and 26 highway (manual coupe).
To remember that V-6 model is the first car ever with a capacity of over 300 horsepower (305) with fuel consumption of only 31 mpg highway. In comparison, 2010 BMW M3 Coupe has a fuel consumption of 14 / 20 mpg, Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG Roadster has a 5.4L V8 engine that produces only 355 HP and has a much fuel consumption 14 / 22 mpg. Japanese cars have always been famous for its economical engines, a top model of the Lexus, IS-f is powered by a 5.0L V8 engine with an output of 416 HP, with fuel consumption of 16 / 23 mpg.
Ultimately, we really could not find such a V8 engine with low fuel consumption. The new 5.0-liter V-8 that will be mounted on a 2011 Mustang GT is indeed the most economical in its class,
but whether it is sacrificing dynamism of the engine, only time will tell. To achieve these results, Ford’s engineers have used the system: Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) adjusts the valvetrain in microseconds depending on driver inputs. A carefully tuned intake and exhaust system ensures free breathing at all engine speeds. And all-aluminum construction results in a lightweight yet durable powerplant. “Mustang powertrain development has reached a point where customers don’t have to choose between fuel efficiency and performance,” says Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of Global Powertrain Engineering. “Thanks to technologies like Ti-VCT and our six-speed gearboxes, a Mustang driver has the best of both worlds.” Towards a new Mustang GT from 2011 will have added the following features: New EPAS eliminates the drag of an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump. Combined with the new six-speed transmissions, standard 3.31 (manual) and 3.15 (automatic) rear axle ratios provide an ideal blend of relaxed cruising rpm and all-out acceleration. Aerodynamic improvements include a new front fascia on the Mustang GT, tire spats on the rear wheels, modified underbody shields, a taller air dam and an added rear decklid seal. There is still no official information about the acceleration of 2011 models, or for maximum speed.
