In this test, we will look at two Germany models with a very long history. The first BMW 5 series was produced in 1972 (1975 in the USA market with the model 530i with six-cylinder inline engine). In 2010 will appear in the sixth generation of the luxurious BMW 5 series. Mercedes E class first appeared in 1950 with a model 230E.

Since then, the appearance has undergone significant changes. In 2009 at Geneva Motor Show, presented the specification W212, replace modification of W211. E class comes in 4 variants: four-door sedan, four-door station wagon, two-door coupe and convertible. The range is from 1.8 inline 4 cylinder turbo engine to V8 6.2 AMG version. In Europe diesel variants are available with 2.1 I-4 engine, and 3.0 V6 engine. For the U.S. market E-class comes with three engine variants: E350, E550, E63 AMG. In this comparison we chose two of the ch
eapest versions of both German vehicles, driving only the rear wheels and B6 engines. Models which are tested are 2011 models.
The first thing noticed is the engines type. BMW rely on inline six cylinder engine with cylinder capacity of 2979 cm3 twin turbo system and power output of 306 hp. In the Mercedes engine is Vee engine with angle of 90 degrees, the capacity of 3498 cm3 with no turbo power and 292 output horsepower. Work on both engines is very quiet, power is sufficient for everyday use, fuel consumption is pretty good for its class. Acceleration of the BMW is better than the Mercedes, despite the larger weight and smaller engine. Fuel consumption is also in favor of BMW wi
th little advantage. The maximum speed of both cars is electronically limited to 250 km / h. In extreme driving BMW is doing better, thanks to its hard suspension. Ride comfort is better in the Mercedes. Space in the car is the same honors in both Germany cars, with very little advantage for BMW. Mercedes cargo volume is slightly larger in the BMW. As for the updated design of both cars is our preference for the E350.
Our advice: If you want sportiness and extreme driving, a better choice is BMW 535i, the fuel consum
ption at BMW is also better. Comfortable ride like expected is better in Mercedes. The qualities of a BMW engine are much better than those of the Mercedes, which makes us, choose the BMW 535i.
