Chevrolet Volt won its next award. Only a few days ago the hybrid car Chevrolet Volt was honored as “Car of the Year” in the U.S. in two separate competitions of American magazines Motor Trend and Automobile. At the LA Auto Show Volt won its next award “Green Car of the Year, thereby became the first electric vehicle to win the award. Volt works only with electric motor in the range between 25 and 50 miles on a single charge. Furthermore the electric motor, vehicle can travel about more 300 miles using 1.4-liter gasoline engine. “The Green Car of the Year ® award validates the Chevrolet team’s promise to deliver a practical electric vehicle,” said Joel Ewanick, General Motors vice president, US Marketing, who drove a Volt 2,394 miles from Detroit to the Los Angeles International Auto Show, where he accepted the award Thursday. “The Volt’s a transformational technology that will lead our industry into a new age of vehicle electrification.” Major are Chevrolet Volt competitors was Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Lincoln MKZ Hybrid and Nissan LEAF. Previous winners: Audi A3 TDI is 2010 Green Car of the Year; VW Jetta Clean Diesel Wins 2009 Green Car of the Year; Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid Named 2008 Green Car of the Year. Main competitor of the Chevrolet Volt, electric Nissan LEAF received a consolation award: “2010 Green Car Vision”.
