According to unofficial information from BMW are preparing two new models with front wheel drive. Models have been competitors to the Audi A3 and VW Golf, 1-Series variants. Future models FWD most likely to be called UKL (acronym for Unter Klasse). FWD 1-Series will have a shorter bonnet and a larger cabin, which will increase the interior space. The disadvantage is that the most likely not have enough space under the hood for the six-cylinder engines. Future BMW 1-Series UKL initially will come with two engines, 2.0 diesel and 1.5 turbo three cylinders engine. BMW is likely to make a hot version that uses the 2.0 gasoline engine with output power of around 220 hp. Besides BMW FWD 1-Series, Germans will offer standard rear-wheel drive for the models: three-door and five-door hatch and a coupe and cabriolet 1-Series. The official launch of the next generation 1-Series, will take place at the Geneva auto show March 2011.
