Chrysler Group plans to stop sales of the Dodge Journey in Europe. Model will go into a new subsidiary brand and will be sold with Fiat logo. Most likely model will be called Freemont. This step is part of the Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne’s plan to cut development costs and boost capacity utilization of both companies. Freemont is expected to get new suspension and new diesel engine from Fiat, 170-hp 2.0-liter diesel. If this happens we will see for the first time Fiat engine in a Chrysler vehicle. Currently Journey used VW 2.0 diesel engine with 150 hp.
Freemont will replace poorly selling Ulysse, who not even AWD version. Most likely the new model will be produced in the plant in Toluca, Mexico, which builds the Dodge Journey and the Fiat 500 for
North America. Official premier of the new model will be in 2011 Motor Show in Geneva. Sales in Europe are expected in June same year.
