Start/stop systems are a great way to reduce fuel burn in the most inefficient mode engines operate in, idling, first testing and using the system on hybrids made perfect sense and now is the time to expand the application to standard vehicles.
Its a very simple way to basically reduce overall fuel burn. Theres been a issue of EPA certification because the EPA didn’t have the technical procedures to factor in the start/stop cycles.
It’ll be a little freaky at first for drivers, but they’ll soon adjust.
New safety systems such as the widely touted engine cutoff system which shuts off the engines if you’re stepping on the brake and accelerator at the same instant already offer a preview. This system alone will force a
change in many drivers in how they’ve driven for a long time. The safest way to drive a automatic transmission vehicle is with one foot.
