Audi and Mazda plan to join forces in creating new rotary engines. Information currently is still unofficial. Now both companies are considering how they may cooperate in the development of new technologies in this type of engines. The main purpose of Audi in this cooperation is to develop a small engine with 20 hp (15 kW), which will be installed in the future A1 e-tron. By Mazda, for its part announced that they have developed a new laser ignition system that significantly reduces CO2 emissions. Expected Mazda to launch new-generation rotary engine with the successor of the RX-8, but currently the project is delayed.
