Mazda engineers are determined to optimize the maximum curb weight for the next-generation MX-5 Miata. Plans are vehicles weighing to be less than 2,000 lbs (907 kg). Currently, the curb weight of current-generation MX-5 is 2,480 lbs (1,125) kg. To achieve its objective by Mazda will rely on lightweight high-strength steel body, a smaller engine and a minimalist interior. Even expected to remove owner’s manual in the glovebox and be replaced by digital version on a USB flash drive to reduce some lbs. According to the original plans the total weight will be reduced to an incredible 1,760 lbs (798 kg), which is unlikely to occur.
